Are you walking through a difficult situation that is sucking the air out of your hope?
Do you look around and wonder, “what am I going to do now?”
Do you keep hanging on and then realize that there is nothing to hang on to?
I remember so well the day that this happened to me. The day that my husband was told that he had a rare form of cancer sent our lives spinning. It is the news that no one wants to hear. The doctor gave us just a trickle of hope as he sent us off on a journey of specialists, tests, and surgery that continually took away any hope we had.
As we stepped into each appointment at Mayo Clinic we heard news that was hard to make sense of and assimilate it into what we knew our life to be. Each time we stepped into an appointment we would step in seeking to hear encouraging words and would leave the appointment silently sifting through the information in our heads unable to speak to one another. The hope that we had wanted to hear was taken but an updated version of hope would be given, until THE day. The day that there was no more wondering because everything was revealed, and every breath of hope was taken away.
BUT God. Yes, the doctors, the appointments, the tests, the surgery, and the statistics told us that there was no more hope. As believers we knew that our hope was not to be based upon what the doctors were saying but that it was to be based upon the cross of Calvary and the resurrection truth that Jesus died to give to us.
How do you take the truth of the resurrection and bring it into your situation? How do you walk in hope where there is no hope?
- I want to give you a gift of hope that will share the things that I learned as I walked through my husband’s illness, cancer diagnosis, and hopeless journey of statistics and case histories.
- I found that hope was not found in this world or in the doctor’s diagnosis.
- I learned that hope is a person and His name is Jesus.
- I discovered the power that hope brings so you can get up and continue on each day.
Hebrews 6:18-20 in the Passion Translation says,
“And now we have run into his heart to hide ourselves in his faithfulness. This is where we find his strength and comfort, for he empowers us to seize what has already been established ahead of time – an unshakeable hope! We have this certain hope like a strong, unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God himself. Our anchor of hope is fastened to the mercy seat which sits in the heavenly realm beyond the sacred threshold, and where Jesus, our forerunner, has gone in before us. He is now and forever our royal Priest like Melchizedek.”
